NORfolktales of Land and Lake
A Canada 150 Event
In recognition of the 150th birthday of Canada, the Long Point Region Conservation Authority, is proud to announce NORfolktales of Land and Lake, a youth and community-based outdoor theatre production at Backus Heritage Conservation Area on August 17, 18, 19 & 20.
Canada’s peoples are defined by their stories, but more importantly by the stories that are told by them. These stories, from both the historical record and from oral tradition are something that can give us a sense of identity and place - whoever we are, and wherever we live.
NORfolktales of Land and Lake is a dramatic celebration of the rich heritage of stories that have been (and still are) told in Norfolk County from both indigenous and settler traditions. Tales like shipwrecks and rum-running, invasions and rescues, heroines and mad doctors will be gathered and animated by a mix of professional artists and community members in a travelling theatre production that will bring the grounds of Backus Heritage Village to life. This outdoor theater extravaganza is sure to delight all ages.
Presented in partnership with Anne Barber and Brad Harley of Shadowland Theater and Ian Bell of the Crooked Stovepipe. Joining them is Indigenous teacher Alan Colley, plus Indigenous, Shadowland, and local Norfolk County artists.
