Each year, scholarships are awarded to watershed students who are graduating from high school and pursuing a degree in an environmental or natural resources field at a post secondary level. The Lee Brown Marsh Management Committee, in conjunction with the Long Point Region Conservation Authority, has awarded the Leighton and Betty Brown Conservation Scholarship annually since 2007.
The Leighton and Betty Brown Conservation Scholarship was established to honour the former LPRCA employee and his wife and their many years of service at the Marsh. Leighton was employed as Marsh Manager for more than 15 years (1974 -1989) and together with his wife, made significant contributions to waterfowl management.
Who is eligible?
Long Point Region watershed residents who are in their final year of high school and registered for full-time study at a Canadian college or university in the fall with an emphasis on conservation, environmental studies, resource management or a related field are eligible to apply.
Applicants must have demonstrated academic achievement and have participated in activities that promote environmental awareness or helped with conservation projects in communities throughout the Long Point Region watershed.
