SERVICE DISRUPTIONS & ADVISORIES
Leave your firewood at home!
It might seem innocent enough, but bringing firewood to or from your campsite has the potential to destroy thousands of trees. Firewood can be infested with disease and carry small but harmful insects that are often hidden in the bark or wood.
The damage caused by invasive species such as the emerald ash borer (EAB) can expand exponentially when they get rides from families on vacation – even if it is only a few kilometres away.
Purchasing firewood locally at your travel destination and burning it all at your campsite is the best way to help prevent the spread of these insects and diseases.
Staff at LPRCA Conservation Areas will be asking if you have brought any firewood from quarantined areas. If you have, the wood will be exchanged for locally sourced firewood. You can also help by leaving unused firewood at the park; never take wood back home.
Your cooperation is appreciated - the future of our forests is at stake. For more information and the latest updates about EAB and regulated areas, please visit www.inspection.gc.ca or contact the CFIA at 1-800-442-2342.
